Recently I took on the challenge of being the Social Committee chairman for our Homeowners Association, which has about 800 homes in it. My first job as chairman was to organize a 5K run and 1 mile walk for our community. As the day of the race neared, I really got worried that no one would participate and that it was going to rain cats and dogs. But Saturday morning came and although it was super windy, the weather cooperated, and 75 people showed up to run! We had no idea that many people would be there and so we didn't have enough volunteers to handle the volume of people, but besides that, everyone had a good time and I think it went well!
The previous chairwoman warned me that it would be a thankless and difficult job, but I really had a great experience doing it. I mean, it's not an easy job to say the least, but I really enjoyed it. My mom has always been a community volunteer and instilled in us girls the importance in serving, and I'm grateful she did. It really is rewarding.
Here's Brian and Abby coming down the home stretch.

very cool!
Good for you Mandie!!! You deserve a cheer! To do that near the end of your pregnancy is more than I could do! Sounds like you have got a great community!
Awesome job. You go girl!
That's really cool that you are so involved in the community! Makes me want to go out and do something, too!
Sweet. I am glad you had a good turnout. I can relate to the stresses of putting on a 5k. I put on 3 different ones for LifeGift while living in Fort Worth. They were a lot of work but were also a lot of fun.
Texas,
I forgot that you did that!!! My life would have been so much easier if I had used you as a resource. I totally started from scratch. I'll call you up next year, because of course, the HOA is all pumped and wants to make this the next White Rock Marathon or something.
