passion

Is there something that you are passionate about?

I mean, aside from raising a family.

Is there something that consumes your thoughts when you're mind is free to wander? Something that you could do all the time and never tire of it? Something that you feel if it wasn't in your life you would not be complete? Perhaps its a hobby, or something you have made a living doing. Or maybe its something that you feel compelled, maybe even obligated to do. Sort of like a life's calling.

What's your passion?

Have your passions changed over the years?

What's your calling in life?

(Aside from raising your family.)

I want to know.

Do tell.

This is a hard question to ask moms... mostly because of the stigma that comes with being a mom... you know... the one where you lose yourself (and your passions) in the job. But, I think if we think about it, all of us have something we are/were passionate about. I started trying to figure mine out... I like reading but sometimes I get sidetracked from it so it cannot be that much of a passion. I like watching TV shows but that seems like it is not wholesome enough to be a passion. :-) So, I decided that my passion is helping to make people happy... through flowers or food or just talking. I do still get sidetracked from that quest in my day to day life but if the question is what I feel like my mission in life is, that would be it.

My passion has become taking pictures. I know that's the obvious answer for me, but it's for different reasons than you might think. One of my favorite things about it is all of the people we meet. We've met some really cool, really great families and couples. It's reassuring that there are awesome people everywhere who love their families and want to have kids and who are nice and really appreciate what we do. It's just awesome. I may not be the best photographer out there and I think sometimes it's more gratifying for me than it is for the people we photograph!

And Randi, if making people happy is your passion, YOU ARE ALREADY REALLY GOOD AT IT! We ♥ you!

My passion is music. Like Missy, it's a little obvious, but a passion nonetheless. I've always enjoyed singing, but when I was in my early college years I had a "light bulb" moment when I realized and KNEW that my musical gifts were from Heavenly Father and that I was to use them to lift others and not to glorify myself. I've been a ward choir director the large majority of my life since age 18 and I find great joy in helping people discover the beauty and depth of music in themselves. I love to perform it, but especially to teach it. I'm not the best teacher - but I'm passionate.

Seriously, Mandie, I have thought about this one long and hard. Do I have a passion? I know I have passion but 'a' passion? Hmmmm..... I think my passion has changed from time to time. But underlying all of the changes has been the constant passion for learning and watching people learn. I think it's fascinating when people change their lives because of something they've learned. I think it's miraculous that people CAN change their lives if they will only educate themselves and really LEARN. Some of the most inspirational people to me are ones who are lifetime learners. No matter what age they are, their life is still full of energy and excitement because they are still learning from life.

On a less profound note, I do think a lot about being an event planner. That's kind of a dream that Kimball and I like to do together, I guess. We get pretty excited when thinking through the details of events and figuring out the how's and what's and when's of it all. Maybe it's just that we like working together?...

That's a hard question for me, too. For a long time it was raising kids, but I also enjoyed learning sign language during that time. And playing the piano. And sewing. And home decorating. I always knew I wanted to finish college, but had 5 different majors (communications, child development, deaf education, journalism, & music therapy). I finally figured out that all my interests could be combined by becoming a speech pathologist, and I have finally found something I love that I'm good at. It only took me 20 something years to figure it out!

Singing. Playing the Piano. soaking up the sun! Laughing. making incredible memories and documenting them.

I am sure there are others. But these are things that I have been passionate about for the last few months. So, yes, mine have changed.
