not so great

Abby is not doing too well with her hearing aids any more. At first she was okay with me putting them on, but now she yells, "no no no no no no no no!" and runs away. And she even gets upset when I put them on Carter. Carter is doing much better than Abby with them, but the last two days he has been rubbing his right ear really bad and he won't keep the hearing aids in his ears. I hope that doesn't mean an ear infection.... Plus, I think his molds are too small cause they come out really easily.

The volume is not turned up very high on either of their hearing aids, and I think if they were turned up to where she could actually hear better, she might recognize the benefit and want to put them on. We have an appointment on Tuesday to get them turned up, so we'll see if that helps. My mom has a suprise for Abby that will be coming soon, and I think that will help too. I'm very excited about it!

I know wearing hearing aids is a process, and it does take a lot of time, but its pretty discouraging. I HATE fighting my kids, and now I have to fight them constantly during the day with their hearing aids. I don't like it at all, but I don't have a choice. So wish me luck. :)

I had a thought yesterday after I talked to you. I know about the doll, but what if you got the audiologist to give you & Brian an old pair to wear so you could have family hearing aid time? You wouldn't even need the molds--maybe just watching you put them on and combining it with some super fun activity would be enough.

I remember Corgan used to have a problem with wanting to keep his hearing aids in....after time and after Kelly kept putting them back in his ear he eventually learned to live with it and now he doesnt seem to mind them at all......so i'm sure it will just take a bit of time, but eventually she will learn to keep them in there.

You are amazing, Mandy! You inspire me to be more patient and have a better attitude about my tiny challenges. I hope things are getting easier with the hearing aids and Brian's aversion to sleep. Ethan has always hated to sleep but it seemed like there were stages when he was worse than others. Funny- at the time I thought I would never forget how hard it was but now I don't even remember much about those times.

I hope things easier. You have terrific patience. I feel guilty now about getting upset because Matilda is loud at church.

I completely understand and went through it for freaking ever. This too shall pass. Maybe if they saw Corgan wearing hearing aides and had a little peer model it would help...

I can't wait to see how Abby liked Mom's present. I'm just sad I haven't seen her with her hearing aids on yet! We'll have to come over soon!

Good luck keeping those HAs in! Here is a great page of suggestions from Listen-Up:

This blog is great! I hope you'll consider adding it to the aggregator at Deaf Village (www.deafvillage.com) -- there are tons of parents who have been there/done that who would be happy to help you out as you begin your hearing journey!
