love story

The other day I was telling a group of girls how much I hated Taylor Swift's song, Love Story, as well as a few other popular sappy love songs. They all disagreed saying how much they loved them and teased that I must be one of those "rocker girl hate song" lovers. I'm not really, although Kelly Clarkson is rockin the hardened chick songs lately. I think its more that I'm just a picky music lover, and a lot of popular songs really annoy me. Maybe I'm even a music snob. I'm not ashamed.

I hate the song Love Story because it's a sappy story stuck to a really basic tune intended only to manufactuer tears and sell to the masses. The hook of the song, no lie, has four, FOUR notes in the melody. Do, re, me, and fa. The rest of the song has a little more melodic variation, but to me its boring and repetitive.

I digress.

This version of the song might actually change my mind about Love Story. But it doesn't, Missy, make me love Viva la Vida any more. :)

Man, I've been really opinionated lately.

Nawww, I'm with ya. I think she does a great job hitting with her targeted audience--I'm just not part of it. And truthfully, I've never been much of a Jon Schmidtt fan, but the cellist was rockin' my world!

Oh come on, even I've said Viva la Vida isn't my favorite Coldplay song. But I promise you can't listen to the whole album and not have complete and total respect for them. I must go listen to it now!

I actually saw this video on another one of my friends' blogs just the other day and I dig it! Jenny you are right, the cellist is awesome. :)

I think that you are alot like Matt as far as music goes. Matt has the music background and notices everything about songs. Especially when people sing in church! You catch what most people don't. You notice true talent and don't fall for the same ol' sappy thing. If we were all able to hear what you or Matt do then Britney would not be selling out stadiums currently. I agree you with you 100%.

You have an amazing ear for music. Of course this version is way better than the radio version. However, I must admit I do like Taylor Swift and many other "popular" songs. (wish I had an ear for music or a voice for singing) Here is where I must say that I AM thankful for my talents and by ability to ENJOY other peoples talents!

Love Story is an insanely boring song! I can't listen to it! But music like that appeals to the simple-minded, that's why they are huge hits! Sorry if I offend anyone. It doesn't challenge the brain! It's alot like Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker. Super simple, uses the same melody over and over, but it was a HUGE hit in his time, and still is popular today. You've got to compose for your audience, and Taylor did. Smart girl. Doesn't mean I like her, or appreciate her music.

Melinda you sound like such a music snob! And you're the girl that loves Nickelback! ;)

Yeah, I'm not a fan of Taylor Swift much either. Her version of Love Story may as well be a song from the dogs for me. It is way too simple. Jon Schmidt's version is pretty tight though. The cellist definitely rocks the house. Adds in something entirely new.

Viva La Vida is awesome. Schmidt does a great rendition of this one too. The man is just amazing.
